The beast circled her, shifting forms with every heartbeat. Its mirrored eyes reflected her fear, her confusion, her exhaustion.
Her weakness.
Her insignificance.
Her loneliness.
Her past.
Her palm burned.
The Demon Seal pulsed.
Her forearm burned.
The Fae Seal pulsed.
The beast lunged again.
Eris screamed - not in fear, but in something deeper, something ancient, something Voidborn.
Light exploded from her skin.
Not bright.
Not warm.
But cold, colorless, devouring.
The beast froze mid‑strike.
Its form cracked - not like glass, not like stone, but like an illusion unraveling at the seams. Its colors bled away. Its shape dissolved. Its mirrored eyes shattered into dust.
The beast collapsed into nothing.
Silence fell.
Geneviève's smile widened.
"Perfect."
Kaelith tore free of the spell, rushing to Eris's side. "Are you hurt?"
Eris shook her head, breath trembling. "What was that?"
"A mirror," Geneviève said. "A reflection of what you fear most."
Eris swallowed hard.
"And what did I do to it?"
"You unmade it," Geneviève said. "As only a Voidborn can."
