the world Katherine Hemera is living in isnt right. atleast not anymore. when she was 12 years old an outbreak of monsters flooded the earth. they were soundless creatures that seemed to be able to take form of a shadow. moving fast in the moonlight. traveling wherever the moon shines, but always went away during the day. the night of the outbreak millions of people died but not a single kid under the age of 16 was touched, they were left unscathed. but as soon as someone turned 16 they would be hunted. surving adults quickly banded together to make a safe haven, all kids and adults were welcome. they had food and schools. they were safe. mostly. once you turned 16 you had to go out for one night prove your not invaluable. and then after you proved your worth you would have a monthly schedule where you'd have to leave to compound and patrol. everyone from the ages 13 up were taught how to fight and survive when the "shadows" come. Kath was fine with the slopy food, long hours of school and training, now it was the day of kath's 16th. she was going out that night. she was going to have to be hunter or hunted. she chose hunter. when she's fully equipped and ready she leaves, ready to face wherever comes her way. a twig snaps and a shadow. no not a shadow a person appears.
