It started three years ago... No one agrees on the moment the world ended, whether it was the emergency broadcast that dissolved into static, or the morning the streets stopped making noise. What everyone agrees on is how quickly it happened. One day there were schools, curfews, and the assumption that tomorrow was guaranteed. The next, survival replaced every other conversation. Cities hollowed out, choked with abandoned cars and shattered glass, and the people meant to protect us disappeared as easily as the rest. Childhood didn't end so much as it was stripped away. This is the world we live in now, where trust is rare, fear is constant, and staying alive is the bravest thing anyone can do. After her mother's unexpected passing, Gemma is sent to live with a group of strange men who don't seem overly fond of her being there. Their secrets, their strange rules and behaviour make Gemma want to run; to hide, to go back in time to when everything felt safe again. But life doesn't always play the way's expected, and Gemma's life of before can only stay as that: in the past.
