"Where are we? I thought we escaped."

Ezra stood still, scanning the empty campus. Lockers shut tight. Windows dark. The air unmoving.

No one else was here. Just us.

"I don't know. You tell me," he said with a shrug, annoyance pulling at his voice.

I jerked my head at him. "Excuse me?"

"What do you want me to say? That we're trapped here because you thought you had all the answers?" He glared at me.

"Oh, fuck you."

He scoffed, "You and I both know you don't mean that."

His gaze drifted down both hallways. Something was off. Unnatural.

A shadow of understanding crossed his face.

"I don't think we escaped," he said quietly. "We broke their damn law."

My chest tightened. Silence pressed in, heavy and exact. Tears slipped down before I could stop them.

"I want to go home," I whispered, but the word felt hollow, wrong.

He looked at me like he was searching for something already gone.

"We are home."

And that was the worst part..

They 𝐃𝐈𝐄𝐃 and escaped the island.

Or.. so they thought.

But 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 was never the end. It was the doorway.

Bound by stolen 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 and a 𝐥𝐚𝐰 older than memory, Indigo and Ezra wake in a reality stitched together by something that 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 to let them go.

The island didn't lose them.

It relocated them, as their 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 and 𝐛𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 remains.
