Two little girls, in two different eras, yearning for their parents. A shy girl in a new country. An uncertain woman dancing back into life after the death of a spouse. A thrilling short short. Mother and son argue over what is dignity, what value her life. A creepy little short that won an honourable mention in the Hart House Short Story Contest. The bureaucrat and his ever-so-busy day. A party that glitters and excludes ones who don't fit. A daughter rebels. A mother and her youngest, a conflict without end, that only death can solve? Murder stalks the homeless in Toronto's innocent streets.

The ePub and Kindle versions include a bonus romance, written in 1919 by my grandmother, about two people who have to face danger to find each other. There's a story in that:
My mother’s sister and mother liked to write poetry. My mother’s mother was a stellar speller and a killer Scrabble player. But I had no idea until recently that as an adolescent she had written and submitted stories for publication. I don’t think her queries were successful. And it wasn’t long before she got married and started riding the Wall of Death as a living with her husband. And so in honour of that century-ago effort of hers, I reproduced in the ePub, as she typed it errors and all (or what I suppose to be errors as grammar is different between countries and eras), the story my mother – her daughter – found recently in an old envelope postmarked from London 6:15 pm 23 SP 19 (23 September 1919) to Miss D. YOU MONSTER!" She screamed with rage, as her eyebrows furrowed due to anger, as the calm figure stood there silently, observing her. Bethany was still sobbing loudly in her small voice from afar. "What are you doing in my kitchen?" And yet again there it goes again the same mantra - My house - My terrace - My room and now My kitchen too? Really ? Why this man is so obsessed with MY title. "Nothing I was just thinking to built a swimming pool here wouldn't it look cool and it's quite spacious too what say ?" I said while crossing my arms below my chest. "Shut up! Stop talking nonsense." He spoke irritatedly. "Then stop asking nonsense !" I retorted back just how he did. "Why someone will be in kitchen? Offcourse to cook now do one thing go bring that mop stick from there and clean this mess which you made." with that I turned back and started stirring my mixture in the bowl. I have to take milk from fridge. I made it note mentally before I forget it. "Wait what? Did you just ask me to clean this mess?" And I can tell you he must be pointing his finger to himself. "No I'm not asking you but I'm telling you ! ❝Bhoot pisach nikat nahi aavey, Mahavir jab naam sunavey...❞ It was late at night, when I heard a knock on the window. I froze hearing the knock. Slowly, I got up from my study table and tiptoed toward my bed, trying to decide if I should check the window. But something told me not to, so I climbed on the bed instead. I'm not opening that window. I know how in horror movies, the main character hears some creepy noise and runs straight towards it. Like hello? do they not care there could be a whole-ass ghost waiting to jump on them? Another knock. I squeezed my eyes shut, gripping the blanket tightly. If this is how I die, I swear I'm haunting the ghost back. I was on the verge of running to wake up my parents when I heard a sneeze and then... my name whispered slowly. "Pratiksha." It clicked in an instant. Oh god! I shot up from the bed, hurriedly unlocking and opening the window. Before I could even react, he tumbled through and fell directly on the floor with a thud. I gasped in shock, half laughing but also panicking at the sight of him in my room. "How did you-" I started to ask, but he quickly clamped his hand over my mouth. I stared at him. He leaned in closer and whispered, "Don't make noise, or we'll both be in trouble." What. Is. Happening. ~~~ If overthinking was a sport, she would have won every time. He, on the other hand, one moment, he was the smoothest guy around. The next, he was doing something completely silly just for fun. Together, they were like a perfect mess. Michael's Ghost Girl
This story is not getting the attention it deserves, so I am attempting to "re-brand" it. Maybe no one "gets" it. If you want to read about "Normal" teenagers, maybe this isn't for you, it's more complicated than that. It's about a teenager who doesn't fit it, but doesn't want to, who has the best two friends that anyone could have. Who watched his father lose his job in the Recession and then loses his home, and how he copes, especially when he learns that their new house is haunted and the ghost is in his room. Michael was an average kid, although he's always stood out. He was a school jock but also a skater whose long blond hair almost reaches his waist. When his parents lived in a house in a home owners association like all his other friends, life seemed normal. Then his father lost his job and suddenly those "friends" weren't there anymore--except for his two best friends, Short Round and Dewey. The three are skaters, good ones, who live for girls and their skateboards. They're also basically good kids who take pride in being different without paying attention to it. When Michael loses his home and his family has to move they have his back. And they are there for him when the ghost girl starts following him around. Mariah was murdered when she was just 15, her remains were never found, although no one but her and her ghost friend, Crazy Girl, know where their bodies are buried. The house Michael now lives in is the one where she lived with her family, and her old room is now his. She appears to him one night, trying to taunt him, but against her will she is falling in love with the boy who lives in her old room. Slowly the two begin to fall in love and Mariah tells him her story, and of the hidden danger that lies up the street from him. Nice to meet you after all these years. You've grown so well. You look like a lot like your your mother. I smiled, getting a little uncomfortable with the comparison to my mother. "I see. I'm glad to give you company". "Thank you dear. It has been 10 years since I got Alzheimer and your mother just left me here. You sound kinder than her". I choked on my coffee hearing what she said, "What do you mean my mother?", I asked shockingly, not caring about respect for that second. "Yes, she used to visit me everyday when you were born. Huh! Sweet old times! Unfortunately, it has been 2 years". She seemed serious, more like disappointed, the real disappointment that one could not fake. I was about to blame her fuzzy logic on her alzheimer but she startled me with just a photo on her phone. A mid aged lady wearing a red dress that revealed most of her neck with her smiling widely, both of them holding champagne, looking like they were about to pass out. I scrunched up my mind a little and tried remembering my mom's face . The last time I checked, my mother didn't have a twin. I kind of grabbed the phone from her and rechecked the photo to only notice that it was taken exactly 2 years ago. I was shocked and tried to put things together but failed miserably. "But my parent's death were 5 years ago. How can my mother still be alive?" A story where a 19 year old girl, Chasey goes on an "uncalled for" adventure to find the last puzzle piece she craved for, all her life. Is she desperate? Yes.
