Everything falls apart when Valerie Hopper is in a car crash, with her abusive step father, Phil, and mother, Angie Williams. After waking up from her week long coma, she finds she has to move in with her birth father, Jim Hopper. She packs all of her things and with her little step brother Wyatt, they move to Hawkins Indiana, a town where nothing happens.

Upon arriving in Hawkins she is met with nightmares, survivors guilt, and PTSD, but also a boy who won't seem to leave her alone, no matter how hard she tries to get rid of him, he just keeps showing up for her right when she needs him. Steve Harrington, the popular king of the school, someone Valerie never saw herself getting along with. She's just starting to enjoy her new life in Hawkins when one night one of her brother's friends goes missing. Valerie teams up with Wyatt and his friends to solve the new mystery of the once quiet town. What happens when she finds a girl in the woods, what happens when she discovers her feelings for her best friends boyfriend, and what will happen when she has to put everything on the line to keep Wyatt and his friends safe granting them a life long babysitter.
