Zara Fields is a master of survival. When you were dumped by your father into foster care at age two, you kind of have to be. She can handle it all. Drunk foster mothers, abusive foster fathers, flea-ridden homes that you never feel safe in, bigger, tougher, scarier kids. She’s seen it all and has handled it on her own. So at seventeen years old, countless foster homes and three stays in juvie later, there is little that can surprise her. That is until she is placed with the Brooks. Now she has to navigate, understanding foster parents, sophisticated high schools, siblings who settle their problems with words or x-box tournaments rather than their fists. Suddenly this girl, who has been blown from place to place suddenly finds herself in the water barely being able to hold her head above water. Because this, after all is out of her depth.
