Rotkäppchen

A flash fiction piece done for the 2025 Fear competition put on by Writing Battle, is a retelling of Red Riding Hood when the hunter becomes the hunted. This piece did not do well with professional judging but was loved by the participants of the competition. Guess the judges couldn't stomach the every day horror's of women. So, it is uploaded here for more to read and enjoy and or relate to the piece.

"This story kind of wrote itself. I love Grimm fairytales, studied them in college along with German literature (German language minor). Red Riding Hood was one I loved the most. Not for its tale but for what it stands for. It's an age old story to warn women and girls against men with bad intentions men being the wolf. A tale women told other women, and those women to their daughters as they sat around a fire and spun thread.

Something that's also mentioned in fairytales is the male gaze. This is my commentary on it and personally how it makes me feel. This story was kind of cathartic for me to write. I'm proud of this story and what it stands for. Women protecting women and taking their agency back."
