Kate Brooks, MFA student in her last semester of Northfield's creative writing program, has exactly three problems: her thesis is imploding, her dream of writing feels more like a nightmare, and the graduate assistant assigned to mentor her might actually be Satan himself.

After publicly trashing a pretentious syntax article-and accidentally baptizing its author in cold brew-Kate discovers that the victim of her academic vandalism is none other than Alexander Caldwell: PhD candidate, published literary snob, and the newly appointed gatekeeper of her graduation.
