This story originally appeared in my one shot collection, Lust // GxG, under the chapter "Hunted." My friend Alex and I were walking both of us electrical engineering majors, tired as hell and softmores in college. "Yo, Rem," Alex called. I pulled down my headphones. "Hmm?" "You wanna go in that house over there?" she asked, pointing at this busted-up, haunted-looking ass place across the street. I looked at her like she lost her damn mind. "No, nigga, the fuck? We just finished a three hour exam and you tryna go in that ugly ass trench house?" She blinked. "No...?" "Yeah. No. Suppose a ghost or some shit is in there? I ain't risking that." "Yeah, whatever," she muttered, already walking toward the damn house like she ain't hear me. "You got some white in you?" I called out, following behind because clearly, I got poor decision making skills too.

When 18-year-old Aaliyah "Liyah" Carter collapses during track practice, her world-and her future-shatters overnight. Diagnosed with a rare, life-threatening heart condition, she's forced into strict isolation under the watch of her overprotective parents, who refuse to let anyone get too close... especially not her girlfriend. But Kendra "KJ" James isn't going anywhere. Shut out, doubted, and constantly told she's just a "phase," KJ fights to prove that her love for Liyah is real-strong enough to stand in hospital rooms, silent nights, and the fear of losing her. As Liyah's condition worsens and hope begins to fade, KJ takes matters into her own hands, risking everything to find a way to save the girl she loves. Because love isn't just words-it's what you do when time is running out.
