Elara Hart lives her life by the rule of the straight line. As a competitive mathlete with a "perfect-score" scholarship on the line, she views the world as a series of solvable equations. If she follows the formula, she wins. There is no room for error, no space for variables, and certainly no time for the messy, unpredictable nature of feelings. Then there's Elaine Harper. Elaine is the girl who colors outside the lines-literally. A free-spirited film student who sees the world in grainy shadows and golden hour light, she has no interest in Elara's rigid calculations. When the two are forced into an unlikely partnership for a high-stakes cross-disciplinary project, their worlds don't just collide-they intersect. As Elara tries to map out their progress, Elaine begins to show her that the most beautiful parts of life happen in the "negative space" between the points. But as their connection deepens into something neither of them can quantify, Elara must decide: Is she brave enough to break the pattern she's spent her whole life building, or will she let the fear of a "wrong answer" keep her from the only person who truly sees her? In a world of rigid angles and predictable paths, they are the one variable that doesn't fit the equation.

In a society where blue is classified for boys and pink for the girls, Shiloh Ching Escarra struggled during his childhood when he discovered his fondness for the toys and colors that were only labeled for the girls. Despite confining himself in the darkness, Brent Matthew Jarsdel, his roommate and the son of his mother's friend, gradually peeked through his thick walls and found a way to paint his world according to what color he genuinely prefers. In the midst of those unexplainable feelings, confusions, and judgements, Brent was willing to risk it all; to fight for the love he unexpectedly found; to build him a home where his true colors would finally be accepted.
