One single event going through from two perspectives could change its absolute meaning, and so the view of the people involved in that event. Katsuki and Izuku parted ways in a key moment of their lives, and when the moment of the reunion came, everything was completely different from what they knew. They're both conscious they changed, they are not the same people both once got to know; however, that doesn't change the fact one of those two expect the version to come back again, to let go of that memory he got from his own perspective.
