The thing about window seats is that you have to commit to them.

You climb over people, you wedge yourself against the wall of the plane, and then that's it - you've made your choice, and the choice has consequences. You can't escape to the aisle. You can't pretend you need the bathroom and not come back. You are there until someone lets you out, which means you are, in practical terms, at the mercy of whoever ends up beside you.
