Katelyn Thompson knew how to skate before she could talk. With an NHL-legend for a father, the entire hockey world knew she and her siblings would one day take over the scene, continuing the on-ice legacy that was created for them.

Until tragedy strikes on the night of her brother's NHL draft and now the family of seven are now just two - Katie and her older brother, Jack. It's certainly one thing to try to live up to your family name when they're there to tell you it's okay if you fail, it's another thing to have to live up to it in their honour.

Katelyn and Jack have always had each other's backs on the ice, but they never thought they'd only have each other to lean on. With the new career and the new school, it feels like the two are skating on thin ice, waiting for something to fall apart.

And with all things considered, Adelaide CI's hockey captain Zander Larsen is the last thing Katie needs between her and her breakaway.
