You know the old adage as much as I do: "War never changes." Three words. Three words that most people may never flinch at, as if they'd ever have the chance to hold a blade. The ones that do are steeled by them. We are the ones who ensure everyone else rests at night. Business is just as good as its steel and works the same on all ends; steel to flesh will either save a life or end it. War...never changes. And no matter what war you face, there will be the usual suspects. Always are. Reprieve. Angst. Famine. Death. We shake hands with all of these devils as we arm ourselves to fight for our gods. We unfortunately have the displeasure of ignoring the deal they already made with one another. And we're the ones cashing the checks. ...war never changes. When the dust finally settles, and the last drop of blood is spilled, the war is either won or lost. It remained the same, in principle. But do you know what doesn't? Us. I am changed, by the war that remains the same, when it writes its own redundant verse over and over, and we are forced upon the same song and dance. The same pomp and circumstance. So maybe it's time now for war to be changed.

Seraphina Ravelle, the stepdaughter of Marquess Edric, grew up surrounded by luxury-but behind the mansion doors, cruelty ruled. Her mother, Isadora Ravelle, used her power to torment the Marquess's first daughter, Liora. Seraphina loved her sister dearly, yet she could never show it. Desperate to save Liora from their mother's abuse, Seraphina secretly forged a letter and sent a marriage proposal in her sister's name to the feared Grand Duke, Izek Viremont. But instead of accepting Liora... the Duke sent the proposal back-to Seraphina. Why would one of the most powerful men in the kingdom choose her? And what does the Duke truly want?
