The first tape arrives without fanfare. I'm home from work about four hours earlier than normal, and there it is in my mailbox without a single postage stamp or mark of any kind. Just the words "Dear Spencer," scrawled in neat, tall printing with a heavy-handed ballpoint pen. 

I don't have a VHS player, nor a compact VHS adapter, but neither are hard to find, just rather pricey. Why did I ever get rid of mine? My palms sweat as I watch the first tape unfold. Confused, I watch it again. I'm fully aware the first time of what I'm seeing, but my brain refuses to process it: 

There I am in my bed, the blankets mussed over my sleeping body. And the things I see next, well, they horrify me ... and I can't look away. I'm enraptured as I witness a story told about me without my knowledge. 

One tape becomes two, followed shortly by a letter, and I am helpless to stop any of it as the unknown sender barrages me with invasive recordings and perverse letters, and my job falls apart.
