A half-dragon can be raised to suppress their monstrosity and appear fully human. But Yvelise rebelled too much against the status quo and ended up as an exile in a lonely tower.
Princess Enora wants to run away to escape an arranged marriage with a prince. To figure out the safest way to get intentionally kidnapped, she researches dragons in the area and finds Yvelise, who agrees to help her out in exchange for some much needed companionship.
They've got a good thing going, living together as fellow runaways, and neither of them wants to ruin that with their inconvenient blossoming feelings. Especially when the relentless pursuit of a prince determined to rescue Enora demands their attention, forcing them to keep on the move, taking shelter in caves and abandoned structures.
Yvelise refuses to kill Prince Maël so as to not make dragons look bad. But when he dies anyway, they realize that the best way to get the kingdom off their backs may be for Yvelise to take his place and trick everyone into believing that the prince and princess got their happily ever after with a fairytale wedding and a long honeymoon.
But who will be the first to admit she wants the marriage to be more than just a means to an end?
