Without Meaning To

"He will fall in love with you," Taehyung said quietly. "Falling for you is the easiest thing. I know. I did it myself and I didn't even see it coming."

San smiled the way you smile at something that cannot possibly be true. Sixteen years. Sixteen years of being in the same room, the same family, the same every occasion and he never once looked at her like that. Two or three years under the same roof would change nothing.
She was so sure.

Vivan hadn't planned to feel anything.
He was a man in grief, raising a daughter alone, doing the decent thing. That was the story.

Except the story kept adding sentences he hadn't approved.

He started feeling things. He told himself it was proximity. Grief. Loneliness dressed up as something else.
He kept feeling them.
Not forbidden by custom. Not even by society - she was his wife, legally, truly. The only thing that made it feel wrong was the grave that was still too fresh and the love that had lived there.
How, he asked himself. How did you let this happen.
