Winter was the officer putting handcuffs on Karina's father.

Karina remembers every second of that night. The flashing police lights outside the house. The neighbors watching from their windows like it was some kind of show. The cold sound of metal cuffs snapping shut.

And Winter standing there in the middle of it all like it was just another case.

Karina tried to stop her. Tried to explain that something wasn't right about the accusations, that her father wasn't the kind of man they were making him out to be.

Winter didn't listen.

She walked past Karina like she was just another person in the room.

Now the case is closed. Her father is in prison. And Karina is left with anger she never got the chance to say out loud.

Then the threats start.

Anonymous messages. Warnings telling her to stop digging into the past. Someone watching her closely enough to know where she goes and when she's alone.

The police say it's serious.

Serious enough that she needs protection.

When the officer assigned to watch over her shows up at her door, Karina almost laughs.

Of course it's Winter.

The same woman who helped destroy her life now standing on her doorstep like nothing about this is strange.

Winter looks at her calmly.

"Hey."

Karina tightens her grip on the door.

"You've got to be kidding me."
