Evander Mikaelson was seventeen years old when eternity found him. He had his mother's face-anyone who had ever known Rebekah Mikaelson would see it immediately. The same pale gold hair that caught the light like a halo, the same sharp cheekbones, the same bright, defiant eyes that carried both warmth and danger. He also carried her spirit: proud, impulsive, fiercely loyal, and far more sentimental than he ever allowed strangers to see. Evander had been human for only seventeen short years before his life was violently rewritten in 1920. The world he had known collapsed into the endless night of vampirism, the result of the same ancient magic that had created the Mikaelsons centuries before. With the blood of an Original flowing through him, Evander's transition had been... different. Stronger. Sharper. The hunger louder. Everything about him felt amplified in ways he didn't yet understand. He was still learning what he was when the running began again. Because Mikael had found their trail. The family had spent centuries fleeing Mikael, the relentless patriarch who hunted vampires like monsters that deserved extinction-even his own children. His shadow followed them across continents and decades, and in the early 1920s it followed them to Chicago. Evander remembered those months vividly. The city lights reflecting off wet streets. Jazz spilling from smoky clubs. His mother laughing in a way that almost made the constant fear feel distant. And then there was Stefan Salvatore. Stefan had been different from the vampires Evander expected. Quiet where others were arrogant. Gentle where most were cruel. Rebekah fell for him quickly-dangerously quickly-and for a short moment it felt as though the endless running might finally stop. But Evander knew Niklaus Mikaelson better than that. Klaus trusted no one. And he trusted Stefan least of all.
