The Cold Rain

Some things are remembered only when they hurt enough to surface.

A boy collapses in the rain, numb and empty, the same song looping in his ear.
When he wakes, he is warm. Wrapped in a stranger's jacket. Breathing lavender-scented air.

She smiles like she has been waiting years.
She feeds him from her fork, dresses him in her clothes, leans against him under shared blankets, and listens to his heartbeat as if it has always belonged to her.

He does not know her name.
He does not know why her touch feels like something he once knew.
He does not know why his pulse races when her thigh brushes his, or why her scent makes his chest ache like something buried is trying to rise.

She offers no answers-only fragments.
"You always liked salmon."
"Your hair still smells the same."
"When you remember... you will understand."

She found him.
She waited in the rain.
She carried him home.

Now he lives inside her orbit: her couch, her blanket, her gaze, her gentle rules.
Every day she pulls him closer.
Every night the warmth grows harder to refuse.

He tells himself he will leave tomorrow-retrieve his things, return to the life before her.
But tomorrow keeps becoming tonight, and tonight ends with her head on his shoulder, her fingers tracing his jaw, her voice whispering promises he cannot yet name.

Somewhere, in the fog of forgotten years, a small boy once reached for her first.
Somewhere, a girl once decided he was hers forever.

When the past finally breaks through-
whether in a quiet moment or a violent one-
Will he step back into the light she has kept burning?

Or will remembering be the thing that finally drowns him?

Some loves arrive quietly, like rain on glass.
Others arrive like the moment the glass shatters.

He is already standing in the downpour.
And she is holding the only umbrella.
