When archaeology intern Zephyra Aster brushes dust from a mysterious stone slab in the middle of a desert excavation, the ground collapses beneath her. She wakes in a buried throne room older than recorded history. Curious and maybe a little reckless, Zephyra sits on the ancient throne just to see what happens. That turns out to be a very bad idea. In a flash of blinding light, the ruined chamber restores itself... and suddenly the hall is filled with guards, servants, and a terrifying king whose throne she is currently occupying. King Alaric, ruler of a ruthless empire, is certain she is either a spy, a witch, or something far more dangerous. Zephyra is just an intern who digs holes. Now trapped in a living kingdom centuries in the past, surrounded by suspicious nobles, ancient magic, and a king who may decide her fate with a single word, Zephyra must uncover the truth behind the throne she awakened. Because the throne didn't just bring her here. It chose her. And some powers buried beneath the desert were never meant to wake again.
