A Friend Once Lost is an Inuyasha AU fanfiction following a younger Sesshomaru and his father, Toga, the Great Dog General of the Western Lands. When Toga crosses paths with a small, exhausted fox-wolf hybrid girl named Reiko, he takes her under his protection and brings her to his palace.
Reiko is quiet, cautious, and carries more weight than a child her age should. She does not know who she truly is, only the life she was given. Toga, however, knows the truth and works carefully to give her the time and safety she needs to heal and find her footing.
As Reiko adjusts to palace life, an unexpected friendship begins to form between her and Sesshomaru. Neither of them has words for it at first, but it shapes them both in ways that will carry well into adulthood.
