The woods behind your cottage are usually quiet at dawn.
Just the soft crunch of leaves beneath your boots, the distant call of birds, and the comfort of routine. You like the solitude. After England, after the farm, after everything you left buried behind you, silence feels safe.

Until the morning you find him.
A man collapsed in the underbrush - tall, sharply dressed despite the blood soaking through his shirt, his smile strangely intact even through the pain. He claims a hunter mistook him for a deer. An unfortunate accident, he says.

You know wounds when you see them. You used to be a nurse.
So you do what you've always done: you bring him home.

Your secluded cottage becomes his refuge while he heals. Days pass between bandages, quiet conversations, and the crackling voice of the radio humming through the evenings. The stranger introduces himself as Alastor, and the longer he stays, the more unsettling it becomes how easily he settles into your life.

He notices things.

The jars.
The bones you collect from the forest.
The way your hands never tremble around blood.

And you begin to notice things about him too.
His unsettling charm.
His possessive streak hidden behind polite laughter.
The way his eyes seem to light up at the same things that should horrify ordinary people.
What begins as kindness slowly twists into something stranger - a connection built on secrets, curiosity, and appetites neither of you are willing to name.

Because the truth is... you both have pasts better left buried.
And sometimes the most dangerous thing in the woods isn't the hunter.
It's what you decide to bring home.
