The Conversations We Never Had - Outtakes

Two entrepreneurs from different worlds just can't seem to quit each other. Will they ever figure it out, or will they finally let each other go?

These are outtakes from my upcoming novel, The Conversations We Never Had. They're mostly slice-of-life chapters and scenes that didn't make the final cut during the developmental edit, which means some are chronological and some aren't.

The story itself started as a dramatized memoir of my formative dating experiences, from my late teens to early twenties, triggered by a particularly horrid breakup. I'd been dating or in a relationship nonstop during that time and was feeling disillusioned with love, because none of what I expected ever happened.

So I started journaling. But try as I might, I couldn't fully access my feelings until I began dramatizing my experiences through these characters: Liya and Wethu. As you may have guessed, Liya represents my side of the story, while Wethu draws from a composite of ex-boyfriends whose relationships taught me a lot about myself.

Looking back, I've dated variations of the same man. In this story, I unpack those patterns as I make sense of my dating life as a pretty girl with a halfway decent personality who's found herself in more than a few interesting situations.

Genre-wise, I'd describe the story as contemporary erotic romance with a hint of psychological realism. I see this as a chance to introduce the characters and the world while I continue polishing the final manuscript. Feedback is welcome if you've got any. Thanks for reading! :)
