Inner Void

I've tried to be kind,
but the world has no love for honest people.
I've tried to love,
but love only dug the hole deeper for me to fall into.

I'm not a victim,
just someone too sane for a world gone mad.
Too honest to be liked,
too aware to believe in empty nonsense.
Every morning is a waking I never asked for,
and every night is the same small death repeated.

I'm not looking for the light.
I just want to know how long this darkness plans to keep making a joke of me.
