My eyes were heavy. Conscious because she was sleeping on the other bed so peacfully beside the window. The moonlight cascading on her hair.

She is snuggled up on the bed. Looking so cozy and vulnerable, leaving no choice for me but to admire. Had she ever sleep this peacefully in a room with a stranger?

The smile that I didn't know I had plastered on my face fades when I hear her whimpering in her sleep. My body moves on my own as I get off of my bed to get closer to hers.

"Alveena," I slowly call her to wake her up from whatever terrifying dream she is having but not from her sleep. "I'm here," I assure her as she sobs. I get under her blanket and wrap my hands around her tight body. "Nothing bad can happen to you when I am here."

When I bring her closer to my chest and snuggle as close as I can, my t-shirt gets damp from her tears and her sobs get muffled. I can hear her heartbeat.

"Whatever it is, I'll protect you. Past, present, future." I run hands through her damp hair and blow air. After she calms down and grabs my skin, I hear her last shob. Her body relaxes but mine only gets more concerned.

Who the fuck made her this terrified?
