In 1897 London, the world is gray, cold, and unforgiving-especially for Harry Williams.

An orphan since infancy, Harry has never known his parents or where he truly came from. The orphanage he lives in is harsh and quiet, the kind of place where children learn quickly that hope only leads to disappointment. At school he is the easy target: the quiet boy in the back of the class who never fights back. Bruises fade, but the loneliness never really does.

Harry survives the only way he knows how-by sleeping.

Sleep is the closest thing he has to escape. In dreams he doesn't hear the cruel laughter of classmates or the stern voices of caretakers. In dreams he can almost pretend there is somewhere else he belongs.

But one night, something strange happens.

When Harry wakes in the middle of the night, he notices a shadow moving across the wall of his small room. At first he thinks it's just the moonlight playing tricks on him. Yet the shadow lingers... watching him. Silent. Curious.

It returns the next night.

And the next.

Night after night, the mysterious shadow slips through the window and quietly observes him. It never speaks, never moves too close-just waits, as if studying the lonely boy in the bed.

Harry should be afraid.

Instead, he begins to wait for it.
