Elara Hawthorne has always been shy, quiet, and observant, careful to stay out of the spotlight. Preferring the edges of the famous trio's adventures, she exists mostly as someone they report back to rather than notice. By third year, whispers follow her everywhere, and even her friends begin keeping secrets. Slytherins resent her closeness to the trio, yet somehow, she manages to catch Draco Malfoy's eye. Enemies... allies... maybe something more. Draco Malfoy is paying attention, whether she likes it or not. As the year unfolds, Elara will learn that sometimes the smallest shadows hold the strongest secrets, and that survival, loyalty, and courage are rarely found in the places people expect. In a school full of heroes and villains, the most important stories are often the ones hidden between the lines. All characters and settings, except for Elara Hawthorne and her foster family, belong to J.K. Rowling. This story is a work of fanfiction inspired by the Harry Potter series.
