It wasn't his father who was broken by grief when Voldemort first struck all those years ago. It wasn't him who had to stand by and watch his father become a hollow shell of a man, consumed by self-loathing and guilt for the lives he could not save. So no, I didn't expect Albus Dumbledore, of all wizards, to understand why I did this.
