Traveling with him and his companions means noise, warmth, and something far more dangerous than any road behind her-people who notice when she goes quiet, people who expect her to stay. What begins as a temporary arrangement slowly becomes something steadier, something harder to walk away from.

But not everything can be outrun.

There are places that feel wrong the moment you step into them. Silences that listen back. Echoes that don't belong to memory alone. And as the group takes refuge at a quiet farm on the edge of nowhere, the ground itself begins to feel less like shelter and more like something waiting.

Etta knows better than to dig too deep-into the past, into the land, into herself.

But some things don't stay buried.

And when the quiet starts answering back, staying hidden may no longer be an option.
