Cassie Brooks lives in a world where the dead have risen and are after one thing: human flesh. Cassie has become separated from her brother, who is two years older than her, during all of this and is looking for him. She stumbles upon a group with children and joins them, finding a family with whom she fights the walkers while continuing to search for her brother.

But the further she goes, the more dangerous everything becomes and the more loss she suffers within the group itself. Cassie does not know if she is prepared to lose even more people, so she puts everything on the line to defend her newly found family tooth and nail, hoping to find her brother amidst all this chaos. Even through all the raging chaos around her, she also finds love within the group she stumbled upon and realizes that with the right people around you, things might not always have to be so bad.
