Please State Ability

For twenty years, I've asked the same question:

"Please state your ability."

At Triple U, people come in with powers no one wants.
Powers that don't matter.
Powers that shouldn't matter.

My job is to decide where they belong.

Most are easy.

A girl who moves things when she blinks.
Someone who can only turn things beige.
A man who can summon a duck... just one... and it never stays.

Useless.

But lately... something feels wrong.

People don't leave when they're supposed to.
The building feels like it's listening.
And sometimes, I forget what I was about to say.

I've worked here for twenty years.

I believe in what we do.

...I think.
