Sylvie's summer is off to a terrible start. Fresh out of a long-term relationship and desperate for a distraction, she plans a weekend getaway to a lakeside cabin with her friends. Unfortunately, the cabin has been double-booked. Now she's stuck sharing not only a room, but a bed, with Nick, a sarcastic stranger who seems determined to get under her skin. He thinks she takes too many pictures, asks too many questions, and cares way too much about what everyone thinks. Sylvie thinks he's arrogant, annoying, and impossible to avoid. But over three summer nights filled with lake swims, late-night drinks, and accidental honesty, the lines between irritation and attraction begin to blur. The problem is that Sylvie doesn't do casual. And some memories are a lot harder to let go of than others. But when a new transfer student, Solal Foster, is unexpectedly assigned to her project, everything she's worked for is suddenly at risk. Forced to collaborate after a rocky first impression, their partnership quickly turns into tension, rivalry, and something far more complicated. Because the more they clash, the harder it becomes to ignore the one thing neither of them saw coming; They might understand each other better than anyone else.

After fleeing her abusive ex in the middle of the night, Chloe Dawson arrives in a small coastal town with nothing but a duffel bag, a crying six-month-old baby, and the last of her savings. She rents a tiny apartment where the walls are paper-thin. Next door lives Sergeant Mason Kane, disciplined, exhausted, emotionally closed off, and currently on leave between military assignments. After years in the army, silence is the only thing that helps him sleep. Then the baby starts crying every night. At first, Mason is irritated. Chloe is terrified of him. Every knock on the door reminds her of the man she escaped.
