As names are called and others move ahead, Marcus struggles to keep hope alive. Each rejection chips away at him, his certificates and hard work feeling meaningless. When the man in the suit finally announces that the company has found the candidate they were looking for, Marcus' frustration boils over. He pleads, begs, and clings to the man in desperation, but is met with cold dismissal and humiliation.
By the end of the chapter, Marcus is left alone in the rain, shivering and soaked, facing the harsh reality of a world that seems indifferent to his effort, dreams, and suffering.
