"Coyotes are weak," Paul muttered. "Wolves are strong." He said it like it was a competition, like it mattered.
Jane swallowed. "Are they... gonna come over here?"
Paul snorted. "Maybe if you start screaming."
Jane glared. "I'm serious."
He grinned, sharp and annoying. "You gonna cry if one shows up, Ruby Jane?"
Jane puffed her cheeks. "No..." He'd already seen her cry twice. That was enough humiliation for one lifetime.
