The story opens on October 10th, six years after the Kyuubi attack, in Konohagakure. Six-year-old Ino Yamanaka is playing in a park while her father, Inoichi, discusses flower shipments nearby. She witnesses three older boys brutally beating Naruto Uzumaki on his birthday, leaving him for dead after a park attendant deliberately ignores the scene. Ino, initially frozen, rushes to him when they leave. Naruto, barely conscious, reaches up and cups her cheek, calling her "pretty" before slipping into unconsciousness. That single moment reshapes Ino's heart forever.
Ino waits with him until Inoichi finds them. Ashamed of his own village's cruelty, Inoichi takes Naruto to the hospital and ensures he receives proper care. Ino visits Naruto daily, bringing flowers, teaching him to read, and forming an unbreakable bond. When Naruto is discharged, she sees the squalid orphanage room he lives in and vows to change his life.
**Chapter 2: Academy Days** jumps ahead to when the children are about seven to eight years old. At the Ninja Academy, Ino's fierce possessiveness of Naruto clashes with the arrival of Sakura Haruno, who shows genuine interest in Naruto. Ino's jealousy leads her to subtly drive Sakura away. Shikamaru Nara calls her out, forcing Ino to admit her fear of losing Naruto. Naruto reassures her that she is his best friend and "the prettiest girl" he's ever seen. Ino learns to accept Sakura, and the three become friends.
A year later, during tree‑climbing practice, Ino falls and twists her ankle. Naruto fetches ice and holds it to her leg with extreme tenderness, making Ino's heart race. Meanwhile, Sakura has begun spending more time with Shikamaru, leading classmates to gossip that they are dating. The chapter ends with Ino observing that Sakura seems to like Shikamaru, and Ino reflects on her own deepening love for Naruto, content to wait until they are older.
