POV: First Person

After the wildfire that drove the WindClan cats out of their camp to take refuge in RiverClan, WindClan's beloved deputy, Burntleaf, died. Her young sister, Brownkit, lives on and is only one moon away from becoming an apprentice. Mothpaw sets out to make the kit feel welcome, but his friend, Birchpaw, growls and stalks away. The new deputy, Brownkit's foster mother, Frostedpoppy, and her daughter, Yarrowkit, take the kits and the apprentices to Fourtrees for a short training lesson. As Yarrowkit was hogging the attention, Brownkit wandered into ThunderClan territory, unaware of the trouble and misfortune that would fall upon a dark cat.
