Jake, a 700-year-old Australian vampire known for his positivity and his unique "mood maker" ability, is turned into a vampire in Greece by Xylon, a vampire demi-god. Xylon explains that this act is in preparation for a war against increasingly powerful vampire hunters. Generations later, Xylon reappears to warn Jake that the old hunter bloodlines are still active and are now targeting Jake, his vampire members, and his bonded woman.
Simultaneously, Aithlin, who survived being a science experiment during the Holocaust in 1943 and gained mutant abilities including wings and slowed aging, feels an inexplicable pull towards Jake's penthouse. Upon arriving, she discovers she is also marked by Artemis, a mark that appears under her Holocaust number, signifying she is fated to be with Jake. The story then focuses on their developing romance as they navigate the ongoing supernatural war and the threat posed by the hunters.
