Epitaph

"I have spent more of my life with her than without. I know there will be a day that scale shifts the other way. Nevertheless, today is not that day."

As a young kid, my parents took me to an animal shelter so we could pick out two kittens to become our family pets. There, a black runt who the staff weren't sure would survive, yelled at me until I chose her. Once home, that same kitten made it known that she had no interest in anyone but me, and I felt much the same about her.
In such a lonely life, how lucky am I to have such a bond?

Twenty one years later, the death I have feared most has come and gone only recently. Now what am I left with?

"Mortality knows not what it takes. The Reaper knows not the value of what he carries from me..."
