It has always been Ely's life-to live quietly in the province of Negros Oriental, where days move slow and hearts learn to be content. Hindi siya mayaman. Hindi siya ipinanganak na may maraming pribilehiyo. Ngunit marunong siyang magpasalamat kahit sa maliliit na bagay. Sanay siya sa payak na pamumuhay-naglalakad sa lupa nang walang sapin sa paa, pinagmamasdan ang paglubog ng araw na para bang may kinukuwentong lihim, at nangangarap... hindi lamang para sa sarili, kundi para sa pamilyang kanyang pinanghahawakan. Para kang Ely, sapat na ang tahimik na buhay at makatapos sa pag-aaral.
