Once upon a time-like, forever ago-a bunch of stuff happened that messed up the world. That's what all the stories say. People died. People were cursed. Last of a species were made. Magic, vampires, dragons. Blah, blah, blah.
What the stories don't always talk about is the kings of the earth bringing forward their best warriors every year to try to defeat the bad stuff, stop the curse (did I mention there was a curse?), and fix the world again, and (this is the best part) every year they fail, even though they try to tell us otherwise. (Ha! Those liars!)
