Must love be pure and kind? Must we write about the good of man? For is it true that society desires something much more daring? Isn't the purpose of human experience to push the boundaries we call home, to discover the untoward and ghastly truth of what love can truly sprout? For which does one obey, a biblical sense of love, truth, desire, hope, or what nature's complexities may intend? I do not deny the existence of purity, kindness, love, for it is the foundation of what makes us human, yet in the same breath I wish to express my admiration for the "ungodly" virtues which may feed the soul. We are all flawed, why not embrace what is our destiny? To be fallen into both realities, to balance the centre, or to fall to one, and live as intended.
Through all my fanciful "bullshittery" (as I jest) I have forced upon you, I hope you take a moment to realize what this piece of writing entails. It is simply my exploration into the darker reality. I've found means to do so within a reality that is surrounded by love and community, which I have seen as open to such stories.
I watched "Secretary"(2002) after I survived a long-winded mental break and decided I wanted to put my deepest imaginings, brought out through music, into a story.
You will find the songs which inspired this piece while writing on the "Playlist" chapter (to be published), which includes a primary song called "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails and frequent appearances of Ethel Cain's "Preacher's Daughter" album.
Along with a few surprises! The songs will be in order of the story progressing and I suggest listening to them while reading if you are a multitasker.
