"Earning my trust will not come easy," Penelope said, her hard eyes contrasting with the gentleness in her voice. "I've been burned too many times to let beings like you a hundred feet near my heart." After the sudden death of her mother and stepfather, nineteen-year-old Penelope had been left alone to raise her four-year-old half-sister Estelle. It was not easy. Penelope was a known troublemaker, having been expelled from several schools up and down New York, police knew her name. Her stepdad's parents filed for custody. A judge ruled in Penelope's favor, with one stipulation: to prove herself a responsible caretaker. She had a month to find a job, an apartment, stay out of trouble, and keep up with child-rearing. Penelope had her issues but she loved her sister too much to lose her. Out of desperation, Penelope prayed for guidance, never expecting to receive an answer. What followed was Penelope discovering her godly heritage while getting dragged into a whirlwind of drama that came with working under gods. Drama that could threaten her efforts to ensure Estelle stayed with her.

Jane considered herself normal. Of course she stood out for being one of the best students, but that was because she liked learning and was competitive. Of course she was a fast reader, but that was because she was the schools resident bookworm and she wanted to read as many books as possible. Of course she knew the lore and little details of books and movies, but didn't everyone have something they obsessed over? She was normal. She had her quirks like everyone did, that just made her a little unique. If life was a video game she was an NPC in the background minding her own business . So imagine what happens when she is reborn as Hermione Granger from JK Rowling Harry Potter. Hermione was definitely not an NPC.
