Carlisle feels breathless, a lack of oxygen that he's never needed, making his thoughts falter and body faint. The man in front of him shines like a beacon, drawing him to shore from dark and treacherous waters. His undead heart would beat fast if it could, and he's sure his palms would sweat if his skin was capable. The scent of lavender and earl grey hits his nose, and he doesn't have to taste the man's blood to know it would be the sweetest he would ever have.

He must be standing there in silence for far too long, because the pretty brunette with round, umber eyes, rose petal lips and adorable scruff, shuffles awkwardly. "Are you alright?"

Carlisle can't even manage to speak, completely shattered in the face of his mate. He only nods stiffly, and the man shifts on his feet again. "Well, um, you're blocking the soy milk." He nods towards the alternative milk fridge as they stand in aisle four of the grocery store. But all the vampire can do is just stare.
