Maya Collins doesn't talk about why she walked away from the WTA pathway at seventeen. She came to Virginia Tech with a plan - love tennis again, on her own terms, in her own time. She is sticking to it.
Georgia Amoore is good at making everything look easy. She is not as fine as she looks. She has been not-as-fine-as-she-looks for a while now.
When a cross-sport mentorship program pairs them together in the fall of 2022, neither of them is pleased about it. Georgia is too direct. Maya is too closed. They have almost nothing in common - except the particular hunger that comes from being exceptional at something since childhood, and the particular loneliness that tends to come with it.
The problem with Blacksburg is that it's small. The problem with spending time with someone who competes the way you compete is that eventually you start to recognize each other. And recognition, it turns out, is very hard to come back from.
Different Courts is a slow burn wlw romance set against D1 college athletics. It takes its time. It earns it.
