The Dependents

Year 6010: All Humans are considered as one equal race. The only other race that was considered different was Witches. Due to overpopulation, the gene to carry the magical trait quickly became dominant over the non-magical trait. Naturally, the witches divided themselves into two groups. These two different groups called themselves the Renegade Witches, those who had abandoned the pure practices of magic, and the Noble Witches. Witches of the Noble faction were otherwise referred to as pure or righteous. For decades, the sub-races of the magical population couldn't agree on a centralized practice, and began to feud in a civil war. This war affected both the Human and the Witch populations.
The Political Leaders of the human race decided that this would not go on much further. They agreed that these Witches needed to be wiped out, all of them. The Gifted, a sub-race of humans, were created to serve as a weapon to destroy the Witches. Some of the humans donated their own children to the cause, while others donated fertilizing cells. The Humans and the Gifted allied and declared war against all Witches, Light and Dark alike.
One year after the War of the Races, the Asylum was built to harbor and 'protect' the Gifted. All of the Gifted were gathered up and put into the Asylum. Jessi is one of these Gifted. It's been five years since the war, and he has so many questions. Who is he? Who are his parents? Why can't he remember anything before waking up in the Asylum?
