The house had belonged to his grandmother.
Daniel hadn't visited in years-not since he was a kid-but when she died, it passed to him. No one else wanted it. Too remote. Too quiet. Too full of memories no one felt like unpacking.
So Daniel had come alone.
He hadn't expected the silence.
Not the peaceful kind. Not the kind you could sink into and relax.
This silence felt... occupied.
Like something was already there, listening back.
