Set in fictional ancient China.
Changning's first marriage proposal was from Qi Yu, her childhood friend and emperor of the realm. Her packed luggage and the carriage taking her back to her hometown far away from the palace and the capital city had been her reply. Now, more than eight years later, an emergency had drawn her back to the capital city, into the familiar arms of the man who had stolen her first kiss as a young boy.

Qi Yu had ascended the throne at only seven years old and Changning had been his only refuge through it all. She had rejected his proposal years ago, and left without even bidding him farewell. Now that he was older and in control of his royal court, he would not be letting her go.

A best friends to lovers story where one of them has always been in love and the other was just too afraid to admit it.
