Growing up in the 1910s in New Orleans with Louis de Pointe du Lac, you always had a different view on the world than other people. Despite your skin color you didn't feel inferior to whites and despite being a woman you didn't feel inferior to men. You felt like you were better than most people around you, smarter, more accomplished, more educated. Life for you was normal, until someone came and screwed life up for you and Louis.
